Default Questions regarding beast rangers...

I have a few questions regarding rangers who go for beast mastery as their main attribute.

1.) Does the pet's stats (Eg. Dire, Aggressive, Hearty...) affects the efficiency on builds that centers around beast mastery? If so, how much of an effect does it have?

2.) Is utilising a melee build (Eg. Thumper) more advantageous in dealing damage as compared to a bow wielding ranger?

3.) What are the the PvE regions or situations which beast rangers severly under-performs?

p.s I'm quite new to the ranger's profession, so forgive me if some of the questions are ridiculous.

1. Not too much unless you're aiming to optimize your build for offense or defense. Basically for the evolutions Dire does 15% extra damage at a cost of 60 less health, Elder has no bonuses, and Hearty has 60 extra health while doing 15% less damage.

2. I've found that either melee or pure BM does more damage than bows however they both have their pros and cons. Thumpers are very limited in the skills they can take, as such are more dependent on their teammates for defense. Pure BM it really depends on your build.

3. I think a pure BM works anywhere. However it gets tougher in the late game when it's hard to keep both you and your pet's life up.

Here's a more complete guide to pets:
